Der argentinisch-spanisch-amerikanische Tenor José Simerilla Romero studierte am Valencia College und an der Stetson University in Florida und ist Preisträger mehrerer internationaler Wettbewerbe. Engagements führten ihn bereits als Rodolfo (La Bohème) und Alfredo (La Traviata) an die Nederlandse Reisopera, als Alfredo an die First Coast Opera, als Nemorino (L'Elisir d'amore) an die Opera Zuid, als Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto) an die Florida Grand Opera sowie die Opera Naples, als Rodolfo zum Vienna Summer Music Festival. Zu seinem weiteren Repertoire gehören u. a. die Rollen Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Albert (Albert Herring), Ottone (L'incoronazione di Poppea), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Kaspar (Amahl und die nächtlichen Besucher) sowie Danilo (Die lustige Witwe).
Ab der Spielzeit 2022/23 ist José Simerilla Ensemblemitglied an der Staatsoper Hannover und hier in der Rolle des Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites), des Rodolfo (La Bohème) sowie des Zarewitsch Gwidon (Das Märchen vom Zaren Saltan) zu erleben.
