Who am I? Peer Gynt is a young man who likes to escape into his fantasy world to elude reality. He dreams of a better world, of a fairy-tale reality. He yearns for love, recognition and success, but nobody takes his wishes seriously. A struggle between emotional security and freedom rages in his mind.

His journey takes him through imaginative landscapes – from Norway’s mountains through the kingdom of the trolls to the deserts of Arabia. This not only describes external situations but also illustrates an internal journey towards self-discovery.

The renowned choreographer Edward Clug, appearing for the first time at the State Ballet of Hanover, interweaves music, narration and dance into a captivating artistic synthesis in this full-length story-driven ballet. And the evening will also be a musical treat because Clug not only choreographs to Edvard Grieg’s famous Peer Gynt-Suites but integrates other works by this composer into his piece.

Peer Gynt remains a timeless masterpiece whose complex plot can have any number of new interpretations. In Edward Clug’s adaptation, the story becomes a modern story ballet that carries the audience off into a mystic world.
