Peter Tchaikovsky (1840–1893)
Suite from the Ballet Der Nussknacker (The Nutcracker)

This concert is a part of our series more than music which performatively extends the limits of traditional concert experience. The world premiere of the joint work by Marko Nikodijević and Robert Enke explores both the creation and discovery of new sounds and the connection with familiar ones. These two popular composers enjoy experimentation and reflect our modern society’s dream of an automated life in their electrifying music. A similar dream of dolls and wind-up toys that can be brought to life is at the centre of Peter Tchaikovsky’s ballet Der Nussknacker (The Nutcracker). Selected pieces from the ballet complement this concert, dedicated to the fascinating juxtaposition of automatics and liveliness.
