Overview
Bonga Kuenda - or simply Bonga - describes his music as "music of joy, peace and harmony, with a very positive aura" - the semba legend from Angola has been delighting his fans worldwide for decades. Yet the life of the now 81-year-old was often anything but harmonious: his commitment to the independence of his home country led to his music being banned in Angola in the 1970s and he had to go into exile in the Netherlands. But Bonga continued to sing, and he was soon celebrated as a symbol of the Angolan liberation movement. As part of the Stimmen series, Bonga can be heard in Hanover at the end of the year with his distinctive, raspy yet warm voice and his moving songs.
