Das Flirren

The crisis will result in changes, they said. We took to the streets. We demonstrated for equal rights for everyone, for radical climate policies, for our future. But the responses to our demands are disillusioning. But perhaps this disillusionment is the real first step, because it helps us to realise what else is needed. First of all, I have to “dis-illusion” myself, discard the old narratives of “that’s just the way it is because it’s always been this way”, and challenge old idols in order to invent new ones. Perhaps then, the statement “I’m not angry, I’m disillusioned” no longer stands for the shame of not having been enough but for new possibilities instead.
In her work, author and director Milena Michalek focuses on the collective development of the shows. Together with the acting company of Schauspiel Hannover, she will explore the topic of disillusionment during the 2022/23 season. After In Erwartung einer Umarmung, a project that she developed with actors during the first lockdown, Das Flirren is Milena Michalek’s second work in Hanover.
