A talking horse-head, a handkerchief with three drops of blood and an iron oven are the three mysterious symbols featured in the Brothers Grimm’s tale Die Gänsemagd (The Goose Girl).
A queen says farewell to her beloved daughter who goes out into the world to marry a prince. On the journey to her bridegroom, the princess’ evil chamber maid forces her to switch her dress and her horse with her. Once they arrive at the prince’s court, the princess is taken for the maid and forced to herd the geese, while the chamber maid is betrothed to the prince. The talking horse Falada, however, reveals the goose girl’s true origins …

This opera for children fascinates its audience with its melodious song-lines and vividly drawn characters: Iris ter Schiphorst lovingly transforms the Brothers Grimm’s tale about the goose girl into a moving piece of musical theatre for children from the age of six.
