Overview
Whom am I allowed to love? How am I allowed to express myself in my lust? Who governs my body? Who do I want to be and can I truly be myself here? Leyla is many people. Leyla loves. Leyla laughs and cries. Leyla is full of courage and fear. Full of lust and shame at the same time. Miriam Ibrahim’s second production at Schauspiel Hannover once again deals with finding and strengthening one’s own identity. It is about intersectionality and being in-between – about not feeling at home or welcome within social norms and about the attempt to find your own, self-determined place regardless. The topics of religion, faith, culture, gender, race, sexuality and bodies are on the agenda for analysis in this devised play.
