Let the Sunshine In

Dates and tickets

Unfortunately, no further dates are planned for this production.

“Let the Sunshine in!” – inspired by this joyous outcry from the musical Hair, the 2024 Opera Ball will travel back in time to the wild and multi-coloured decade of the 1960s. The Hanover State Opera invites its guests to a journey that appeals to all the senses, back to the age of Woodstock and Flower Power, of “Make Love not War” and “I Have a Dream”. For two nights in February, the Opera House will turn into a whimsical festival venue, exuding the atmosphere of hippie culture and the colourful and freedom-loving spirit of the “Summer of Love”. This era’s musical variety will inspire both the evening’s creative programme and its soundtrack. “Be sure to Wear some Flowers in your Hair!“

Not only the motto is a first this year: The Hanover State Opera also introduces lower-priced Late Night Tickets for night owls who would like to attend the ball from 23.00h. There will also be concession prices for people with disabilities, although the Opera House is unfortunately still not barrier-free. The traditional opening of the ball, presented by Tanzschule Bothe, will also be updated this year and integrated into the multicoloured overall concept. Another new highlight: An outfit competition.

PROGRAMME

Following the festive opening ceremony of the ball, featuring the State Orchestra of Lower Saxony, members of the opera company and Tanzschule Bothe’s young dance pupils, there will be dancing all over the Opera House. From classic waltzes to the fashionable dances of the 1960s – no wishes will remain unanswered! The State Orchestra and the Thilo Wolf Big Band will invite you to dance in the Great Ballroom, while the Lavesfoyer will be dedicated to the rhythm & blues of the era. Friends of classic rock 'n' roll or 1960s twist will have a chance dance to their favourites, and at a later hour, the Marschnersaal will turn into a club for all those who want to dance the night away.

The Hanover State Ballet will contribute some of the show highlights presented on stage and there will be entertainment everywhere throughout the Opera House: Whether our guests would like to take selfies at various photo stations or try out their own stage talents together with drag queen Gisela Kloppke, there are plenty of opportunities to make entertaining discoveries.

OUTFIT COMPETITION AND MORE

This year’s ball will focus on our guests’ sense of style and their relish for travelling back in time, fashion-wise: Everyone is welcome to join the outfit competition and win attractive prizes. Whether it’s an elegant boho evening gown, casual hippie-style or a flower-power suit – the most creative outfit ideas will be awarded with prizes in our Midnight Show. You can find plenty of inspiration in our published trailer.

All culinary desires will be fulfilled by the Opernhaus-caterers vomfeinsten, who will indulge our guests with a wide range of delicacies at various restaurants and food stations.
